Putin threatens war if Ukraine is allowed to use long-range weapons from the West

Russian President Vladimir Putin threatens NATO with war if Ukraine is allowed to use long-range weapons from the West against targets inside Russia. This is reported by AFP.

- If they make that decision, it means nothing less than that the NATO countries, the USA and the European countries are directly involved in the war in Ukraine. That would mean their direct participation, and that would of course change the core of the conflict significantly, Putin said on Russian state television on Thursday, according to Reuters.

- That would mean that NATO, the USA and the European countries are at war with Russia.

Putin has previously spoken of arming the West's enemies with Russian weapons for attacks abroad. In June, he spoke of deploying robots within range of the United States and allies in Europe.

Iran recalls ambassadors over new sanctions

Iran's foreign ministry has recalled the ambassadors of Britain, France, Germany and the Netherlands after the countries accused Iran of selling ballistic missiles to Russia, AP reports.

The government condemned the accusations, calling them "baseless and false". The countries have imposed sanctions on Iran in response to what they see as a "direct threat to Europe's security".

The robots have a range of 12 miles and the fear is that they will be used against Ukraine.

ISW: Russia takes villages in Kursk - the outcome of the counter-offensive unclear

Russian forces appear to have retaken several villages in the Kursk region, writes the Institute for the Study of War think tank in a situation update.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy confirmed on Wednesday that Russia had launched a counter-offensive in the area. According to the ISW, Russia may have deployed more combat-experienced troops than the conscripts who previously gave weak resistance to the Ukrainian offensive in the area.

However, it is also stated that the information so far is scarce.

"The size, scale and prospects of the Russian counteroffensive in Kursk are unclear and the situation remains fluid."
