New EU loan of 35 billion euros to Ukraine

The EU countries decide to lend 35 billion euros (almost SEK 400 billion) to Ukraine, Reuters reports.

The loan is part of a larger initiative from the G7 countries. It is to be paid off with returns on frozen Russian assets, writes the Kyiv Independent.

The decision followed Hungary's announcement that it intends to block an extension of the renewal period of sanctions against Russia from six to 36 months, at least until after the US election.

Member states must agree on sanctions reforms, but only a qualified majority was required for the loan.

Six dead in yet another attack on civilian ship in Odesa

A Russian ballistic missile killed six people and injured eight aboard a container ship in Odesa in southern Ukraine on Wednesday, AFP reports.

It is the third Russian attack on a civilian ship in four days, Governor Oleg Kiper said on Telegram.

Russia has continuously bombed ships and silos in the coastal region throughout the war. It has caused a sharp decline in Ukraine's grain exports, which before the war were among the world's largest.
