Russian Invasion The World's Response

Orbán and Fico threaten to stand up to the EU

Hungary and Slovakia are threatening to block joint communiqués from the EU summit in Brussels on Thursday unless the Union calls for an immediate ceasefire and opens talks with Russia, reports the Kyiv Independent.

The countries, led by Prime Ministers Viktor Orbán and Robert Fico, did not attend Sunday's meeting in London.

"I am convinced that the EU should follow the example of the United States and open direct talks with Russia on a ceasefire and sustainable peace in Ukraine," Orbán wrote in a letter to European Council President António Costa on Friday.

Unlike other EU leaders, Orbán expressed support for Trump after the row with Zelenskyy in the White House.

Trump: We Should Worry Less About Putin

In a post on his Truth Social platform last night, Donald Trump called for a reduced focus on Russia and an increased focus on domestic migration and crime issues.

He also took the opportunity to poke fun at Europe.

"We should worry less about Putin and more about gangs of immigrant rapists, drug lords, murderers and people from mental hospitals who enter our country - so we don't end up like Europe!" he wrote.
