Negotiations
Kremlin: Russia and US have a common view

Russia and the US have a common view that a settlement is needed to end the war in Ukraine, the Kremlin said on Monday, according to Reuters. But there are still many different aspects of the issue that need to be discussed, spokesman Dmitry Peskov added.

The ongoing negotiations between the countries in Saudi Arabia are focused on technical issues, including those related to the Black Sea and the safety of shipping in the region, Peskov said.

Expert: The bigger the role Steve Witkoff gets, the worse it gets

Donald Trump's old golf and real estate buddy Steve Witkoff, who has no diplomatic experience, is the most important link between the US and Russia in the negotiations on Ukraine.

Jan Hallenberg, a US expert at the Swedish Institute for Foreign Policy, is not impressed. Witkoff is "a pure amateur," he tells DN.

- The more central a role that man gets, the worse it gets.

Witkoff's role shows that Trump gives political assignments to those he trusts, without regard to expertise, according to Hallenberg.

Today's negotiations between the US and Russia in Saudi Arabia are going backwards - things have moved so quickly that they are now forced to negotiate what they have already agreed upon, says peace and war researcher Isak Svensson to SVT Nyheter.

- They have agreed not to strike energy infrastructure, but they still have no agreement in place.

Ukraine talks between the US and Russia have begun

Talks between the US and Russia on a ceasefire in Ukraine have begun, according to the state-run Russian news agency Tass. The talks are expected to include technical details regarding the ceasefire at energy facilities.

The talks, which are taking place at a hotel in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, are said to have started at 8 a.m., Swedish time, according to the Russian news agency.

A delegation from Ukraine is also staying at the same hotel and is also due to hold talks with the US during the day. Initial talks were held between the US and Ukraine on Sunday and were described as “productive and focused” by the Ukrainian defence minister.

Spy exposed in Austria – Russian pretended to be Ukrainian

An organized attempt in Austria to manipulate public opinion has been uncovered, according to the country's security service. TT reports. The whole thing came to light during an investigation into a Bulgarian woman who is suspected of having been part of a larger spy cell controlled from Russia.

The extensive operation was intended to undermine Austrian support for Ukraine in the war, according to the security service DSN.

The manipulation attempts are said to have taken place in the form of both online posts and through graffiti and stickers on the streets where the sender was stated to be Ukrainian.

Communication between her and various colleagues in Russia and, among others, the UK was found on the woman's computer and phone. She is said to have had a leading role in the group's work, which began in 2022 and is believed to have been aimed at German-speaking people on a broad front, also in Germany.
