Trump revokes security clearances of political rivals
On Friday evening, Donald Trump revoked the security clearances of Joe Biden and his family, Kamala Harris and Hillary Clinton, among others, the New York Times reports.
This means that they no longer have access to classified government information.
The newspaper describes it as a revenge move - Biden did the same thing to Trump after the storming of the Capitol in January 2021.
The order also includes New York prosecutors Letitia James and Alvin L Bragg, who have pursued legal proceedings against Trump. Some Republicans are also included: Liz Cheney and Adam Kinzinger who were part of the January 6 committee, his former national security adviser John Bolton and his former secretary of state Mike Pompeo.
Barely every other American gives Trump a thumbs up
After two months with Donald Trump behind the wheel, 43 percent of American voters believe that the United States is developing in the right direction. This is shown by a comparison from Real Clear Politics. This is the highest figure since 2004 and significantly higher than when Trump was sworn in, when the corresponding figure was 28 percent.
At the same time, around 48 percent believe that Trump is generally doing a good job as president. This is clearly more than Trump's average in similar surveys during his first term, data from Gallup shows according to TT.
However, this is significantly lower than what Democrats Joe Biden and Barack Obama had 100 days into their presidencies, 57 and 65 percent respectively. Republican George W Bush also had a significantly higher figure than Trump, 62 percent.
For just over a week now, for the first time since taking office, there have also been more people dissatisfied with Trump's job than satisfied.
Musk's cuts may result in worse weather forecasts
Heavy cuts are forcing the US weather service NWS to reduce and in some cases completely eliminate important measurements using weather balloons, reports the AP.
A number of experts are now warning that this will lead to less reliable weather forecasts. Normally, weather balloons are released twice a day from about a hundred locations to collect important data that forms the basis for forecasts.
D James Baker, former head of the meteorological agency NOAA, under which the NWS is classified, says that the information the balloons provide cannot be obtained in any other way.
“It is an absolutely necessary part of the forecasting system,” he says.
The cuts are part of the huge savings program initiated by President Donald Trump and led by Elon Musk.
