Explosions have taken place at a military base in Bolivia. There are reports of several deaths and dozens of injuries.

The explosion took place at a facility in the center of the city of Viacha, southwest of La Paz. Images in Bolivian media show a fireball shooting from buildings into the sky.

Initially, authorities reported that two people had died, seven were missing and more than 80 were injured. A local health director has said on television that 10 to 15 people are feared dead, Reuters reports.

The explosion is said to have occurred in or near a warehouse containing some form of explosives or fireworks.

Police have cordoned off residential areas around the base. The mayor of Viacha has declared three days of mourning in the city, La Razón newspaper reports.
