It took a day longer than planned.

But now a new climate agreement is on the horizon at COP29.

Rich countries must pay SEK 3,300 billion a year for climate action in poor countries.

Just before 3 a.m. local time, the countries had agreed at the climate summit in Baku.

SEK 3,300 billion must be paid annually to poor countries until 2035, to help them deal with climate change.

Earlier in the evening, the prospects for reaching an agreement looked bleak. The negotiations on the climate financing have been slow, and the meeting was in a 24-hour overtime when it was finished.

Several of the poor countries have demanded significantly more - SEK 14,300 billion a year. In an earlier draft, the rich countries proposed SEK 2,800 billion. That prompted many of the poorest countries to storm out of the meeting in protest.
