Trump's victory
Sources: Trump to fire Jack Smith's entire team
Donald Trump plans to send Justice Department investigators to swing states to look for evidence that the 2020 election was marred by fraud. Two sources close to his transition team told the Washington Post.
Trump also plans to fire the entire team that assisted special counsel Jack Smith in the two federal indictments against Trump, including career lawyers who are usually immune to political retaliation, the sources said.
When Trump's spokeswoman Karoline Leavitt is asked about the data, she responds by repeating the president-elect's claims that the investigations against him were politically motivated.
- President Trump promised during the campaign to fire rogue bureaucrats who used the American justice system as a weapon, and the people can expect him to keep what he promised.
Details: Scott Bessent becomes US Treasury Secretary
Donald Trump will nominate hedge fund manager Scott Bessent as the new US Treasury Secretary. This is stated by sources for the Wall Street Journal, Bloomberg and a number of other media.
62-year-old Bessent is the founder of the investment company Key Square Capital Management, and one of Trump's most devoted supporters in the financial world. In recent months, he has become one of Trump's closest economic advisers.
Bessent has on several occasions defended Trump's economic proposals, including the controversial trade tariffs, despite widespread Wall Street skepticism. According to sources to the Financial Times, support for the tariffs has been a central demand for Trump in the selection of finance minister.
According to the Washington Post, Bessent is seen as a figure who can translate Trump's populist rhetoric into a format more palatable to the markets.
