Appointed as finance minister - and Fed chief after Powell
Donald Trump is considering appointing financier Kevin Warsh as the new Treasury Secretary, under the condition that he is later also nominated as the next head of the Federal Reserve when Jerome Powell leaves in 2026, sources told the Wall Street Journal.
According to information to the newspaper, Trump and Warsh should have met at Trump's residence Mar-a-Lago on Wednesday. Among other things, Trump is said to have asked Warsh, who has previously been critical of protectionist trade policies, about his stance on tariffs.
Warsh is now seen as one of the top candidates for the heavy ministerial post, but as of Thursday evening no decision had yet been made, according to the newspaper's sources.

Sources: Donald Trump will reshape US politics in the first few hours
Donald Trump and his associates plan to implement a series of tough measures already in the first hours after he takes office. This is reported by NBC News, which has spoken to several sources in Trump's campaign.
The changes will be made at a pace "unlike anything seen in history," according to one of the sources.
This involves, among other things, quickly changing the regulations for military personnel and deporting people who are in the country without permission.
Trump plans to directly sign up to five executive orders related to the country's immigration policy, three sources said.

Democrats back in familiar leadership vacuum
Just like in 2017, the Democrats will soon hand over power to Donald Trump, while there is a lack of a clear successor, writes Roll Call.
After the election loss in 2016, it was unclear for a long time who would succeed Barack Obama. Eight years later, a new vacuum has arisen in the party when Joe Biden steps aside.
"I've said it before and I'll say it again, but we as a party have done a very poor job of nurturing the next generation of leaders over the past few years," Democratic state Sen. Jim Manley wrote in an email to the newspaper.
