Greenland to hold elections in March: "A serious time"

Greenland's Prime Minister Mute B Egede announces that parliamentary elections will be held on March 11. This is reported by several media outlets.

"We are in a serious time, of a kind we have never experienced before," Egede writes in a Facebook post in which he urges Greenlanders to unite.

A majority of the 31 members of the Greenlandic parliament want to see increased independence from Denmark. According to a new survey, a strong majority of the island's population does not want to leave the Danish union in favor of the United States, Bloomberg reports.

Spain wants to shorten the workweek to 37.5 hours

Spain's left-wing government approved a plan on Tuesday to reduce the workweek to 37.5 hours from the previous 40 hours. AFP writes that the plan is being met with harsh criticism from the opposition and business leaders who worry that the move will hamper growth.

The Spanish Socialist Workers' Party has promised to shorten the workweek without cutting wages by 2025.

The shorter working hours would "modernize Spain" and increase productivity, says Labor Minister Yolanda Díaz.

Syria's new leader seeks support from Erdogan

Syria's interim president Ahmed al-Sharaa has traveled to Turkey to meet with the country's President Recep Tayyip Erdogan, AFP writes.

Together they will discuss "joint efforts for economic recovery, sustainable stability and security," Erdogan's spokesman Fahrettin Altun said ahead of the meeting.

It is al-Sharaa's second trip abroad since the overthrow of President Bashar al-Assad's regime in December. On Monday, he visited Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman to seek financial support to rebuild Syria after 13 years of civil war.

Trump expels 120 Swedes from the US

120 of the 1.4 million people to be deported from the US are Swedes, reports TT.

This is according to a list from the agency ICE, which works to protect the US borders, which Fox News published. The people on the list have reportedly been told that they must leave the country.

The agency has arrested over 7,400 people in the nine days since Trump was sworn in as president. According to Fox, ICE officers have been seen carrying out raids on homes and workplaces.

22 people from Finland, 39 from Norway, 45 from Denmark and 5 from Iceland are also to be deported.
