Middle East Crisis Protests

Israeli youth refuse – burn draft letters

Israeli youth burn their draft letters to the military in protest against the war in Gaza, something that has gone viral on social media.

150 young people demonstrated together at Habima Square in Tel Aviv in mid-July. Yona Roseman was one of those who burned her letter in connection with it.

– I will announce that I refuse and will probably be sent to military prison, she tells TT.

Yona Roseman is part of the Mesarvot movement and often participates in various demonstrations, together with other teenagers, to protest against oppression against Palestinians and the war.

British pro-Palestinians to overload the police

In Britain, thousands of pro-Palestinian protesters are planning to subject the country's legal system to a kind of overload, reports The Telegraph. The whole thing has its origins in the fact that the Palestine Action group, supported by the country's terror laws, was recently declared illegal.

Now the demonstrators are planning to take to the streets and squares with placards with the message: "I oppose genocide. I support Palestine Action". In this way, they want to challenge the legal system and see what happens if the police have to deal with thousands of cases at once.

Since July 5, more than 200 people have been arrested for expressing support for the group.

The terror classification of Palestine Action — the issue

• In June, the British activist group Palestine Action entered a military air base and spray-painted aircraft in protest against military cooperation with Israel.
• Four people were charged for the action, which according to the investigation cost the RAF seven million pounds. No aircraft were permanently damaged.
• The British parliament voted on July 3 to classify Palestine Action as a terrorist organization, and Home Secretary Yvette Cooper announced that the group would be banned.
• Palestine Action has criticized the decision, claiming it is an abuse of power, and has promised to challenge the terror designation in court.
• British authorities have banned protests in support of Palestine Action outside parliament, and police have arrested demonstrators showing support for the group.
