Trump withdraws billions in American aid

Donald Trump is withdrawing five billion dollars in foreign aid, the White House announced according to AFP. The aid programs concerned fall under the State Department and the USAID aid agency, which Trump has effectively dismantled completely.

This raises the likelihood of a government shutdown because Democrats oppose blocking aid that has already been approved by Congress.

Democrats have warned that any attempt to stop already approved aid would halt negotiations to avoid a shutdown on September 30.

Support for Newsom as a Challenger in the Next Election is Rushing

Support for California Governor Gavin Newsom as a presidential candidate in the 2028 election is rushing among Democrats. This is shown by a poll from Emerson College, which The Hill reports on.

The survey is aimed at voters in the Democratic primary. 25 percent now say they support Newsom, an increase from 12 percent in June.

Behind Newsom, former Secretary of Transportation Pete Buttigieg gets 16 percent, which is on par with the poll in June. Support for former presidential candidate Kamala Harris has fallen from 13 to 11 percent. No other candidate reaches above ten percent.

Gavin Newsom has received a lot of attention recently when, among other things, he proposed that California's electoral districts be redrawn in favor of Democrats, in response to a similar Republican proposal in Texas. He has also raised his voice against Donald Trump on social media.

Trump withdraws Kamala Harris' bodyguard protection

Donald Trump has decided to withdraw former Vice President Kamala Harris' bodyguard protection, CNN reports.

Vice presidents are legally entitled to Secret Service bodyguard protection for six months after leaving office. Harris' protection actually expired on July 21, but had been extended for a year by a decision by then-President Joe Biden.

Trump has now revoked this extension. The decision comes just before Harris is set to embark on a nationwide tour to promote her memoir "107 Days".
