Middle East Crisis Israel-Huthi

Houthi Prime Minister Killed in Israeli Strike

Houthi Prime Minister Ahmed al-Rahawi and several ministers were killed in an Israeli airstrike in Yemen's capital Sanaa on Thursday, the group said, according to news agencies.

According to the Houthis, al-Rahawi, who led the Houthi-led regime for a year, was killed during a routine meeting where regime representatives evaluated the past year's work. The Israeli military confirmed the attack, which was described as "a precision strike on a military target."

The Iran-backed rebel group controls large parts of northern and western Yemen, including the capital.

The Houthis have repeatedly fired rockets at Israel during the Gaza war, which they justify with solidarity with the Palestinians. The vast majority are shot down or disintegrate in the air.

Huthi: Will avenge the death of the prime minister

The Houthi rebels in Yemen vow to avenge the Israeli airstrike that killed their Prime Minister Ahmed al-Rahawi and several other ministers on Thursday. This is reported by AFP.

– We promise God, our beloved Yemeni people and the families of the martyrs and the wounded that we will avenge, says Mehdi al-Mashat, leader of the group's Supreme Political Council, in a video clip on Telegram.

He also warns foreign companies to leave Israel "before it is too late".

Israel against the Houthis - the point

  • The Houthi rebels in Yemen have repeatedly fired rockets at Israel since the war in Gaza began, often targeting Tel Aviv and Ben Gurion Airport.
  • Israel has responded with several airstrikes on Houthi-controlled targets in Yemen, including the capital Sanaa, the port of Hodeidah and the country's main airport.
  • Several civilians and senior figures within the Houthi regime, including Prime Minister Ahmed al-Rahawi, have been killed in Israeli attacks, according to the Houthis, while Israel claims the attacks were directed at military targets.
  • The UN and several countries have condemned both the Houthi rocket attacks on Israel and Israel's airstrikes on Yemen, with particular concern for civilian and humanitarian operations.
  • The conflict has led to flight cancellations, evacuation orders and increased tensions in the region, with the Houthis justifying their attacks with solidarity with Gaza and Israel promising continued countermeasures.
