EU summit: Ukraine will become a steel porcupine
EU Commission President Ursula von der Leyen has held talks with Trump and Zelensky after the deadly Russian attack on Kyiv, which hit EU offices, among other things.
“Putin must come to the negotiating table,” she writes on X.
A just and lasting peace in Ukraine must be secured with robust security guarantees that transform the country into “a steel porcupine,” she continues, adding:
“Europe will play its part in full.”
Expert: Europe must see the front line as its own
Europe must see the front line in Ukraine as its own. This is what Orysia Lutsevych, deputy director of the think tank Chatham House, tells Sky News after the latest huge Russian attack on Kyiv.
The attack, the second largest of its kind during the war, shows, according to Lutsevych, that the Russian pattern continues.
– Europe must contribute more equipment from its own existing stocks because Ukraine is the first line of defense. While Europe is rearming and replenishing its stocks, it can still give more to Ukraine.
Europe must also act more forcefully on sanctions against Russia, she adds.
US: An unprecedented attack – threatening Trump’s peace
US envoy to Ukraine Keith Kellogg condemns last night’s massive Russian airstrike on Kyiv, the second largest so far in the war, which killed nearly 20 people, including several children.
In a post on X, Kellogg notes that the attack targeted innocent civilians, civilian train traffic and offices belonging to the EU and the UK representation.
“These unprecedented attacks threaten the peace that the US president is seeking,” he adds.
