Trump and Stubb are heard spontaneously: "Why are you already awake?"

Finnish President Alexander Stubb has developed an unexpected friendship with Donald Trump and now has a key role ahead of the summit in Alaska, writes WSJ in a report.

– Why are you already awake? Trump recently asked Stubb one early morning.

The presidents exchange text messages and calls at odd times. Stubb is up as early as five o'clock for triathlon training, a sauna, and now, a call from Trump.

The growing friendship, which began on a golf course in West Palm Beach, has given Stubb an informal role as an intermediary to the US president. According to WSJ, Stubb is now a key contact for European leaders who want to influence Trump ahead of Friday's summit in Alaska.

US Vice President JD Vance attacks Swedish economist and Russia analyst Anders Åslund in a post on X.

He describes Anders as “a person who has been wrong on almost every important issue for the past 30 years” and writes that he is “angry at the US president for engaging in diplomacy”.

The reaction comes after Åslund criticized Friday’s meeting between Donald Trump and Vladimir Putin. He believes the meeting is based on a misunderstanding about Russia’s peace terms and that the meeting could result in “a major disaster for the US”, he writes in the post.
