Trump's USA

Crime Policy
Trump to patrol DC streets with National Guard

Donald Trump will patrol the streets of Washington DC with the police and the National Guard on Thursday, AFP reports.

- I'm going out tonight, I think, with the police and with the military of course [...] We're going to do a job, he tells the Trump-loyal media house Newsmax.

Trump has called in hundreds of National Guardsmen in the Democratic-controlled city to combat what he claims is an uncontrolled wave of street crime, which is contradicted by crime statistics.

The charges against Trump
Court rejects Trump's fine of five billion

A court in New York rejects the fine of around five billion kronor that Donald Trump has been sentenced to in a civil fraud case, American media reports.

Trump was convicted in February 2024 of having exaggerated his wealth and the value of his properties in order to get cheaper loans. An appeals court has now rejected the fine, which is described as “excessive”.

State Attorney Letitia James will appeal the decision to the New York Supreme Court.

Mid-term elections
Texas has voted through Trump's new electoral map

The Texas House of Representatives has voted through the proposal for a new electoral map, American media reports. This is a first step towards redrawing the boundaries of the state's electoral districts – in favor of Republicans.

The aim is to secure congressional seats for Republicans in next year's mid-term elections. Now Donald Trump has got his way, but it is a partial victory in what is expected to be many political battles across the United States, writes the New York Times. Democrats have promised to respond in kind in California.

The next instance in Texas, the Senate, is expected to vote on the proposal as soon as Thursday evening.

The conflict with universities
Top mathematician: Trump dismantles research

There is an ongoing attack on American universities and researchers from Donald Trump's administration, writes award-winning mathematician Terence Tao in a blog post.

As a professor at UCLA, Tao has been personally affected by Trump's various presidential orders. They have snatched away billions of dollars in research funding seemingly arbitrarily, writes Tao and warns that the United States risks losing its position as a leading research nation.

"This is not a political change of course. It is a conscious dismantling of the institutions, resources and freedoms that have supported American research for generations."

The border issue
Trump wants to paint the wall black – to stop climbers

The entire US wall against Mexico is to be painted black. The aim is to make it more difficult to climb over, announces Kristi Noem, Secretary of Homeland Security.

According to Noem, the idea comes directly from President Donald Trump.

– He understands that when something is painted black, it becomes hotter and harder to climb, she says according to CBS News.

According to the Trump administration, 6,000 people were arrested at the US southern border between the beginning of the year and June. This is a decrease of 15 percent compared to the previous year.

Uganda to accept migrants from the US

Uganda will accept migrants from the US who do not meet the requirements to stay in the country. This is clear in a new agreement, the State Department states on X.

"This is a temporary agreement with conditions that include that individuals with criminal records and unaccompanied minors will not be accepted."

Uganda thus becomes the third African country to enter into an agreement with the US on deportations to third countries. Previously, South Sudan and Rwanda have signed similar agreements, which human rights organizations criticized.

According to the UN, the country already has Africa's largest refugee population with 1.7 million refugees.
