Situation in Afghanistan

The phones are back – after two days of outage

Mobile networks and internet connections have been restored for the residents of Afghanistan, several media outlets report. Late Wednesday evening local time, people can once again be seen on the streets with phones in their hands, writes AFP.

The outage lasted for two days and the UN has warned that it threatens the country's economy and risks exacerbating humanitarian crises.

The Taliban regime, which has previously threatened to shut down the internet in some provinces, has not commented on the latest outage.

Kabul's streets are alive again: "It's full of people"

Kabul residents are relieved after mobile networks and internet connections have been restored after two days of outage. According to AFP, joy erupted in the streets when the outage was over late Wednesday evening local time.

Shop owner Mohammad Rafi has not been able to talk to his family, and says that for a while he considered sending letters. The 33-year-old says the streets have been basically empty in recent days.

– But now they are full of people again.
