Middle East crisis Iran war

Iran: Working on agreement on the Strait of Hormuz with Oman

Iran and Oman are developing a framework to jointly monitor ship traffic in the Strait of Hormuz. This was stated by Iran's Deputy Foreign Minister Kazem Gharibabadi according to Iranian state media, reports CNBC.

Ship traffic will be "monitored and coordinated" between the two countries, according to the minister.

- Of course, these requirements will not entail restrictions, but are intended to facilitate safe passage and better service for ships passing through this route, he says.

The markets immediately reacted positively to the news.

Iran and Oman jointly control the coast of the Strait of Hormuz. The Musandam Peninsula, which juts out into the Strait of Hormuz, is an Omani exclave.

Macron: Unrealistic to open Hormuz by force

It is unrealistic to open the Strait of Hormuz by military means. This is what a somewhat frustrated Emmanuel Macron said during a state visit to South Korea, according to AFP.

The French president's statement comes after his American counterpart said that countries that depend on the oil transported through the strait could open it themselves.

- It is unrealistic because it would take an unreasonable amount of time and expose anyone who crosses the strait to threats from Iran's Revolutionary Guard, which has significant resources, he says, calling for a ceasefire through diplomacy.

Donald Trump attacked Iran together with Israel without first consulting other allies. When NATO countries have not joined the war, Trump has responded with anger, threatening to leave the defense alliance and suggesting that the strait should remain closed.

Iran: The targets you have attacked are insignificant

Iran claims that the United States has not at all defeated their capabilities and that they still have large stocks of weapons and ammunition, reports AP.

“The facilities you think you have targeted are insignificant, and our strategic military production is taking place in places you do not know and will never reach,” said Ebrahim Zolfaghari, a spokesman for the Iranian military.

The US and Israel say that thousands of targets have been attacked in Iran, and Donald Trump says that their strategic goals in Iran will soon be achieved.
