Norwegian Crown Princess Mette-Marit's son Marius Borg Høiby, 27, admits that he abused his former partner.
Last week he was arrested by the Norwegian police after vandalizing his girlfriend's apartment and beating her.
- I used violence while intoxicated with alcohol and cocaine after an argument, he says to NRK.
In a stament to NRK, the Norwegian crown princess's son Marius Borg Høiby admits that he was violent.
- Last weekend something happened that should never have happened. I used violence and destroyed objects in an apartment under the influence of alcohol and cocaine after an argument.
He further states that he has several mental health diagnoses and that he has struggled with addiction for a long time for which he has previously been treated. He says he will now resume treatment.
- Drug use and my diagnoses do not excuse what happened in the apartment at Frogner on the night of Sunday last weekend. I want to take responsibility for what I have done.
Marius addresses the former girlfriend directly in his statement.
- The most important thing for me is to ask my girlfriend for forgiveness. She deserved neither what happened that night nor the extreme attention from both the Norwegian and foreign press afterwards. Being pursued by photographers and journalists during a time like this has been incredibly tough.
Visible head injuries
Marius Borg Høiby is suspected of assault and vandalism on the night of Sunday, August 4. The woman had visible injuries to her head and doctors diagnosed a concussion. Her apartment was vandalized when the police got there. A knife was embedded in a wall, a crystal chandelier was pulled down from the ceiling and there were prisms and broken glass all over the floor.The woman had received threatening calls from Marius Borg Høiby which were recorded and handed over to the police.
Mette-Marit's son was arrested at a school on Sunday, August 4 near the crown prince family's home in Skaugum.
Marius ends his statement with an apology to both the royal family and to the girlfriend.
- I also want to apologize to my family. I know that my actions have greatly affected you. And to you, my girlfriend, I'm sorry. This should never have happened, and I take full responsibility for my actions.
The Norwegian court has previously denied that they acted as advisers to Marius. They also do not now want to comment on the matter to NRK.
- The statement is his own words as desired. I have no further comments now and will not answer any questions at the moment, says Marius' lawyer Øyvind Bratlien to NRK.

I have several mental illnesses that have given me challenges both growing up and as an adult. For a long time I have had problems with substance abuse, for which I previously received treatment. I will now resume and take this treatment very seriously.The use of drugs and my diagnoses do not excuse what happened in the apartment at Frogner on the night of Sunday last weekend. I want to take responsibility for my actions and am prepared to give a truthful explanation to the police.
