Putin on the Kursk offensive: "They have not succeeded"

Ukraine's incursion into Kursk has not stopped Russian troops from advancing in Donbass in eastern Ukraine. That's what Putin says to students in Siberia, AFP reports.

- They calculated to stop our offensive in important parts of Donbass. They have not succeeded in that, says Putin during his visit to the school, which starts the autumn semester today.

According to Putin, the population of Kursk is now going through a difficult time, adding that Russia "of course will deal with bandits on our territory."

According to AFP, the Russian leader's statements contrast with previous statements about the Ukrainian Kursk offensive, which he referred to as "a situation that developed."

Trump campaign goal: Change voters' view of Kamala Harris

With only nine weeks left until the presidential election, Donald Trump's campaign sees it as a necessary strategy to damage voter confidence in Kamala Harris. The Washington Post reports.

A new NBC/Ipsos poll found that 46 percent of voters view Kamala Harris favorably, while only 33 percent view Trump favorably.

Voters' image of Trump has remained relatively unchanged for nearly ten years.

- We have a defined candidate. Everyone knows everything about that person. There's a lot of new information about Kamala Harris that people don't know, says a Trump adviser.

Therefore, people within the Trump campaign believe that the only way forward is to damage the image of Harris. New figures show that the largest proportion, 57 per cent, of the parties' TV ads in the last week of August were attacks on Harris. Only eight percent of the ads were pure Trump attacks.

The change of power in Great Britain
Former Labor leader forms new political block

Former Labor leader Jeremy Corbyn forms a new political bloc in the British Parliament, reports Sky News.

The new Independent Alliance group includes four more MPs who are not affiliated with either Labor or the Tories. All five are united, among other things, by their pro-Palestinian stance.

"Millions of people are crying out for a real alternative to austerity, inequality and war - and their voices deserve to be heard," the new group wrote in a statement.

The new group will be the same size as Reform UK and slightly larger than the Greens

The political situation in Congo-Kinshasa
Breakout attempts - the government warns: "Don't panic"

An escape attempt is underway at Congo-Kinshasa's largest prison, the government says.

"The security service is on site to restore order and security. The population is asked not to panic," government spokesperson Patrick Muyaya writes on X.

According to AFP, the prison officially has a capacity of 1,500 prisoners but has almost ten times that number of inmates. In 2017, over 4,000 prisoners escaped after gunmen struck from outside.
