Political situation in Germany
The party leaders resign from the German Green Party: "New start"

Ricarda Lang and Omid Nouripour are leaving their roles as party leaders of the German environmental party Die Grünen, reports Der Spiegel. The reason is the recent election losses, partly in the EU election and partly in the three regional elections last autumn.

Nouripour says the party needs a fresh start.

"We take responsibility for acting in the party's best interest," writes Lang on X.

Both Lang and Nouripour were elected party leaders in January 2022. It is unclear who will be their successors.

Political situation in Myanmar
Several activists executed by the junta in Myanmar

A married couple was reportedly executed in Myanmar on Monday and the military junta had five more executions planned for Tuesday. This is stated by human rights groups according to Al Jazeera.

Common to those sentenced to death is that they received their sentences during closed trials where they stood accused of having demonstrated against the military junta and for democracy.

Around 120 people risk being sentenced to death in similar charges.

- We are incredibly concerned that the death penalty is used to silence critical voices in Myanmar, says Arlene Brosas of the humanitarian network APHR.

The junta in Myanmar overthrew the democratically appointed government in 2021. Since then, popular rebels have been fighting the junta.
