Households' view of the economy is brightening - favoring Harris

Americans are starting to feel confident about the economy, which is giving a tailwind to Kamala Harris in the presidential race. The Washington Post writes.

Consumer confidence has risen sharply since the bottom in June 2022, and is now at its highest level in four months. At the same time, several opinion polls show that Trump's advantage in economic matters is rapidly diminishing.

In a Fox News poll, 51 percent say they have the most confidence in Trump on economic issues, compared to 46 percent for Harris. Last spring, Trump's lead over Joe Biden was 15 percentage points in the corresponding survey.

- Wallet issues are high on voters' minds, but Trump has failed to hold Harris accountable or tie her to Biden's inflationary failures, says opinion poll expert Frank Luntz.

Trump to women: "I will be your protector"

Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump portrays himself as women's "protector" and claims that women will not "think about abortion" if he wins the election. Several media reports.

Trump made the statement at a campaign rally in Pennsylvania on Monday. He also said that he will save women from fear and loneliness.

- You will never again be abandoned, alone or afraid. You will never be in danger again. [...] You will never have anxiety about all the problems that exist in our country today, Trump said.

The AP notes that Trump, like other Republican male candidates, has difficulty speaking to and reaching female voters and that they have been criticized several times for a "tone-deaf" use of language.

Senate inquiry: Secret service made mistakes at 'almost every level'

Several of the mistakes made by the Secret Service in the assassination attempt on Donald Trump in July could have been foreseen and prevented. This is confirmed by a bipartisan investigation from the Senate, several media outlets write.

The results are in line with the Secret Service's internal investigation. The Senate report is preliminary and shows that the Secret Service made mistakes at "nearly every level" that allowed the perpetrator Thomas Matthew Crooks to fire shots at the presidential candidate.

The mistakes include deficiencies in everything from planning and communication to security and resource allocation. According to the report, a local police officer must have raised the alarm about an armed individual on a roof, 22 seconds before the shots were fired. However, the information was never passed on to the right people within the Secret Service.

"The consequences of these failures were severe," said Democratic Michigan Senator Gary Peters.

Trump was hit by a bullet in the ear and the perpetrator was shot dead by the Secret Service.

Senator on Butler: "It was almost like a farce"

The Secret Service must take "significant action" regarding its leadership. This is what Republican Senator Rand Paul says after the Senate presented its investigation into the actions of the Secret Service during the assassination attempt on Donald Trump in Butler last summer.

- Whoever was responsible for the security in Butler and whoever was responsible for the security at the last assassination attempt cannot be responsible anymore, says Paul to CNN.

The Senate investigation, which is supported by both Republicans and Democrats, shows that the Secret Service made mistakes at "almost every level" in Butler.

Paul's fellow senator, Democrat Richard Blumenthal, says that one thing that stood out was the lack of a clear chain of municipal action.

- It was almost like an Abbott and Costello farce, where everyone points at each other, Blumenthal told CNN.
