Holocaust survivors: AFD's success "depressing"

The success of the German far-right party AFD in the German local elections is "deeply depressing". This is what Christoph Heubner, chairman of the International Auschwitz Committee, an organization for Holocaust survivors in Germany, told The Guardian.

- We thought that Germany, with its experience of the Holocaust and the rise of the Nazi Party, the SS and all, would be particularly aware of the dangers of this ideology, he says.

In the German state of Thuringia, AFD became the largest party with 33 percent of the vote in Sunday's election. In neighboring Saxony, the party was the second largest, receiving 31 percent.

Australia's ambassador celebrated LGBTQ Day in Iran

Iran is recalling Australia's ambassador to the country after images of a celebration of Australia's national LGBTQ day at the embassy were released on social media. This is reported by AP.

According to the state-controlled Iranian news agency IRNA, the celebration has insulted Iran and Muslim culture.

The photo released shows Australian Ambassador Ian McConville with his colleagues and a tray of muffins.

"Today, and every other day, we work to create a supportive context where everyone, especially LGBTQ people, can feel proud to be themselves," the embassy captioned the picture.

McCoville points out that Iran is not mentioned in the post, and claims that the image is in no way an insult, according to ABC News.
