Kremlin: The UN chief will meet Vladimir Putin in Russia

UN Secretary-General António Guterres is to meet Vladimir Putin in Russia on Thursday. This is stated by the Kremlin according to AFP and AP.

The meeting will take place alongside the Brics meeting in Kazan, Russia, and it will be Guterres' first meeting with the Russian president since the invasion of Ukraine began more than two years ago.

The Kremlin writes in a statement that Putin and Guterres will talk, among other things, about "the crisis in the Middle East and the situation in Ukraine."

The Kremlin hopes that the Brics meeting will show the West that attempts to isolate Russia from the outside world have failed. According to AP, Russia is expected to present, among other things, a "comprehensive strategic partnership" with Iran at the meeting.

The UN has not commented on the Kremlin's statement.

South Korea's criticism of Russia: "Serious concern"

South Korea summoned the Russian ambassador to Seoul on Monday after reports that North Korea has sent thousands of troops to help Russia in its war in Ukraine.

Deputy Foreign Minister Kim Hong-Kyun expresses "serious concern over North Korea's recent deployment of troops to Russia" and calls on Russia to withdraw forces and cease cooperation.

Relations between South Korea and North Korea have gotten increasingly worse in recent days. On Friday, North Korea changed the constitution and listed South Korea as an "enemy state".

Both South Korea's intelligence service and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy have said that North Korea has sent at least 10,000 soldiers to Russia. The US National Security Council and NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte have not confirmed the claims.

Navalny's death
Navalny's widow: One day I will be the president of Russia

Opposition leader Alexey Navalny's widow, Yulia Navalnaya, wants to become president of Russia one day, she says in an interview with the BBC. At the same time, she cannot travel back to her homeland when Vladimir Putin is still in power - it could mean death.

But when the situation is right, she says:

- Will I stand in the election... as a candidate. My political opponent is Vladimir Putin. And I will do everything for his regime to fall as soon as possible.

Although the couple's political decisions had a big impact on their joint children Dasha, 23, and Zakhar, 16, she would never have asked Navalny to change course, she says in the interview. Navalny died in Russian captivity earlier this year.
