Greenland's future

Denmark sends police to Greenland ahead of US visit

Denmark is sending a passenger plane with police to Greenland, reports Ekstrabladet.

- It is in connection with the visit from the US, confirms René Gyldensten, head of communications at the National Police, to the newspaper.

Gyldensten does not want to comment on how many police officers are involved. Nor why they choose to send police officers ahead of the meeting.

This week, US National Security Advisor Mike Waltz is expected to visit Greenland this week, accompanied by the vice president's wife Usha Vance.

Information: Mike Waltz will also visit Greenland

US National Security Advisor Mike Waltz is expected to visit Greenland this week, accompanied by the vice president's wife Usha Vance, sources in the US tell Danish TV2.

According to the sources, Energy Minister Chris Wright and high-ranking military officials may also join the trip. The information has not been confirmed by the White House.

TV2 journalist Martin Breum, on site in Nuuk, says the information has caused a stir in the Greenlandic capital.

“It’s very, very big here,” he says.

The Greenlandic tone against Trump and his threat of annexation has hardened recently. Last week, 800 protesters gathered outside the US consulate in Nuuk, chanting “enough is enough,” after Prime Minister Múte Egede had earlier made the same message.
