Turkey expert: Erdogan is more vulnerable than ever
The fact that Erdogan has the opposition leader arrested just days before he is chosen as his party's presidential candidate shows that the Turkish president will not hesitate to use any means, says Turkey expert Paul Levin to DN.
Erdogan is perhaps more politically vulnerable now than ever, he adds.
- It is a very dramatic event, things are being brought to a head.
Today, the opposition party CHP is expected to choose its presidential candidate. It is still unclear whether it will be the arrested Ekrem Imamoglu, whose detention hearing is being held during the day.
Whether Erdogan will run in the election is also unclear - then he would have to rewrite the constitution, but he has difficulty getting enough votes for that, according to Levin.
