This was stated by the White House in a statement on the peace talks held in Saudi Arabia.
- The US agreement with Ukraine and Russia is a step in the right direction, Volodymyr Zelensky said at a press conference.
Ukraine and Russia have agreed to avoid military attacks in the Black Sea and secure a ceasefire at sea, the White House said in a report seen by the AFP news agency.
According to the agreement, the ceasefire will "ensure safe navigation, eliminate the use of force and prevent commercial vessels from being used for military purposes in the Black Sea".
The countries will “continue to work to achieve a sustainable and lasting peace,” the statement published after talks between the countries took place in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, said.
At the same time, the United States will support agricultural exports.
The United States writes that it will continue to “facilitate negotiations” between the two sides and that it will work towards an agreement that stops attacks on energy facilities.
The demand from the Kremlin
The Kremlin confirmed on Tuesday that they had agreed on a ceasefire but stressed that it has a demand for the agreement to enter into force.According to the Kremlin, sanctions against Russian agricultural products should be lifted and agricultural banks and “other financial institutions” should regain access to the international transaction system Swift.
Zelensky: A step in the right direction
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky says at a press conference in Kiev that the agreement is a step in the right direction."It's too early to say that it will work, but these were the right meetings, the right decisions, the right steps. No one can accuse Ukraine of not striving for a sustainable peace after this," Zelensky said.
