32 of Princess Diana's private letters are now being auctioned. 

 

In several of them, Diana reveals her thoughts and feelings about the divorce from Prince Charles. 

 

"It was desperate and dirty," writes Diana.  

 

The asking price for Princess Diana's letter is set at 90,000 pounds, which is approximately 1.1 million Swedish kronor, reports the Daily Mail. 

 

In the private letters,prinsess Diana reveals that she would never have agreed to a divorce if she had known how desperate and messy the divorce would be. 

 

She also writes that she is afraid of being isolated and that she suspects that her phones at Kensington Palace are tapped. Princess Diana's private letters are for sale at Lay's Auctioneers.

"Longing for the divorce to go through"  

 

The divorce affected Diana so much that she was forced to cancel public engagements when she could not cope with the emotional pressure. On April 28, 1996, she wrote a letter apologizing for canceling a visit to the opera. 

 

"It's just too hard sometimes to keep my head above water and today I'm on my knees and longing for this divorce to go through because the pressure is enormous." 

 

She further writes that she is going through a very difficult time and that the pressure is very great and comes from all sides.  

 

There are 32 letters for sale and they were written between 1995 and 1996 to Diana's close friends Susie and Tarek Kassem.  

 

The couple have made it clear that they are keeping the most private letters they received from Diana. They want to sell the rest because they feel that the responsibility of having them in their possession is too great for them to want the children to inherit.

Diana's dress was sold for over SEK 6 million in January 2023. It was designed by Victor Edelstein and Diana wore it, among other things, at a photo shoot in 1991 and when she was photographed for a fashion reportage for Vanity Fair in 1997. Photo: TT  

 

Diana's estate pulls in millions 

 

The letters will be auctioned individually at Lay's Auctioneers and the proceeds will go to charities that Diana supported. 

 

On the auction house's website, Susie and Tarek Kassem are described as very close friends of the princess and that they feel extremely privileged to have been so close to Diana.  

 

The letters are not the only things that have been sold after the princess's death. Recently, one of Diana's dresses was auctioned off. It had an asking price of SEK 800,000 and the interest was enormous. The lucky auction winner eventually paid SEK 6.3 million for the dress that Diana wore on two different photo shoots in the 90s.
