Protesters storm memorial ceremony in Taipei
About a dozen protesters stormed the stage where Taipei's new mayor spoke today, writes AFP. The protesters called Chiang Wan-an a murderer and demanded that he apologize for the blood shed during the 1947 massacre in Taiwan.
Activists were outraged that the mayor held a commemoration ceremony for the massacre when his alleged great-grandfather, President Chiang Kai-shek, was the one who oversaw the violent repression.
The so-called 228 incident led to the death of around 28,000 people. It started when an inspector beat up a woman selling untaxed cigarettes, leading to an island-wide riot.

The election in Nigeria
Slow vote reporting behind opposition concerns
The Nigerian opposition's criticism of this weekend's election is based, among other things, on the fact that the electoral commission was slow to report numbers from the polling stations, writes Al Jazeera.
According to AP, the election was mostly peaceful, but observers have reported at least 135 incidents. This applies, among other things, to the electoral commission's handling. The opposition is talking about violence in several places and according to Al Jazeera, there are video clips on social media that show how "political supporters" disrupted the order at polling stations.
Anietie Ewang, Nigeria expert at the human rights group Human Rights Watch, has expressed concern on Twitter after an incident in the country's largest city, Lagos, where a woman was allegedly attacked by a person with a sharp object. An election should not involve risks for people who want to change the country's future, she writes.
