A giant ship with Russian fossil gas is on its way to Sweden.
It is expected to affect Nynäshamn - on the anniversary of the Russian invasion.
- This is a betrayal of the Ukrainian people, says Rolf Lindahl at Greenpeace.
Friday marks the anniversary of Russia's invasion of Ukraine. The Russian economy is dependent on the export of oil and fossil gas. During the beginning of the war, a large part of the debate in Sweden and other EU countries was about the importance of stopping the trade.
In May, a unanimous Riksdag decided that Sweden should stop importing Russian energy. Despite this, the trade has continued.
Just since the turn of the year, several ships loaded with liquid Russian fossil gas have arrived in Sweden, says Rolf Lindahl, campaign leader at the environmental organization Greenpeace.
- The cargo on a single ship can amount to two hundred million kroner, and this is money that goes straight into the Russian coffers, he says.

"Shameful"
Now another ship is on its way.
At the same time that political leaders around the world are paying attention to the anniversary of the Russian invasion, the 155 meter long ship "Coral Energy" on its way to Sweden is loaded with liquid Russian fossil gas.
The ship, which according to the website Marine Traffic left the Russian city of Vysotsk on the Gulf of Finland on February 21, is expected to arrive in Nynäshamn at five in the morning on February 24 – the anniversary of the war.
- At the same time as the missiles fall on civilians, Sweden finances the war by buying Russian fossil gas. It is shameful, says Rolf Lindahl.
In the nine months that have passed since the Riksdag decision on the import freeze, at least eight large tankers have delivered Russian gas to Sweden, according to a compilation that the research institute CREA produced for Greenpeace.
The value is estimated at upwards of one Billion kronor. Which, according to Greenpeace, corresponds to approximately 15 Kalibr missiles or several thousand of the Iranian drones that Russia regularly fires at the Ukrainian people.
Requires stop
Other countries, such as the Baltic states, have stopped imports. Rolf Lindahl now demands corresponding steps from Sweden's side.
- We have a comparatively small dependency. This is a betrayal of the Ukrainian people.
On the anniversary of the war, Greenpeace will hand over thousands of signatures to the government with demands to stop imports.
Aftonbladet has asked Energy Minister Ebba Busch for a comment.
