The US Department of Energy assesses that the coronavirus leaked from a Chinese lab. 

 

It appears in a classified intelligence report, The Wall Street Journal reports.

 

The coronavirus likely leaked from a Chinese lab. This is stated by the US Department of Energy, writes The Wall Street Journal.

 

That's according to a classified intelligence report recently submitted to the White House and members of Congress.  

 

However, four other ministries, along with a national intelligence panel, still assess that the virus likely arose naturally.  

 

The Department of Energy's assessment carries weight, however, because the agency oversees networks of American laboratories that conduct advanced biological research, the newspaper writes.  

 

The FBI has previously made the assessment that the pandemic was likely the result of an accidental lab leak.  

 

The US officials have declined to comment further on the new data. 

 

However, they say the Energy Department and the FBI reached their conclusions based on different grounds.
