The climate threat Climate meeting COP29

Saudi Arabia sabotages the meeting: "Catastrophic" situation

At the COP29 climate meeting in Baku, Saudi Arabia has used several strategies to sabotage the negotiations. This is written by DN, which mapped the country's actions during the meeting.

Among other things, the Saudi representatives have rejected texts, arrived late to meetings and openly opposed proposals. SVT Nyheter also reports on how the oil country cracks down on letters about emission reductions.

Climate and Environment Minister Romina Pourmokhtari (L) tells DN that Saudi Arabia is "pouring oil on the fire" and that the negotiation situation is "catastrophic".

Several question marks despite new proposals at the climate summit

New proposals on the global collection targets have been presented at the climate conference COP29, reports Reuters. The countries of the world are still trying to agree on how much money rich countries should give poor countries for climate investments, but the negotiations are going slowly.

The news agency writes that the new draft came several hours later than planned and that some key questions are still unanswered. Who will pay and how much is still unspecified.

- We are far from the finish line, says Li Shuo who is an expert on climate diplomacy at the Asia Society Policy Institute.

Several major donor countries have said they want more clarity on the structure before discussing figures.
