The Russian invasion

Russian reactions
Kremlin: We understand this as a new phase of the West's war against Russia

Russia will do everything to avoid nuclear war – including deterring other countries with nuclear weapons. This is what Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov says after Ukraine fired US-made robots at targets deep inside Russia for the first time, writes Reuters.

- We understand this as a qualitatively new phase of the West's war against Russia and will react accordingly, says Sergey Lavrov during a press conference at the G20 meeting in Rio de Janeiro according to AFP.

On Tuesday, Russian President Vladimir Putin signed a new nuclear doctrine that lowers the threshold for when the country acquires the right to use nuclear weapons.

Russia confirms: Ukraine fired six robots

Russia confirms that Ukraine fired six US-made ATACMS robots at targets in the Russian region of Bryansk, AP reports. According to a statement from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, they shot down five of them and injured one.

Earlier, a Ukrainian defense source stated that the country attacked targets inside Russia with an American long-range robot for the first time.

This after US President Joe Biden earlier this week reportedly gave the go-ahead for Ukraine to use US long-range robots against targets deep inside Russia.

Security around the Baltic Sea
Expert: Should be seen in the light of the prevailing global situation

It is not unusual for underwater cables to break or be damaged, and the most common causes are wear and tear or accidents. This is what Hans Liwång, docent in defense systems at the Norwegian Defense University and marine engineering researcher at the Royal Institute of Technology, told DN.

The fact that Swedish police started a preliminary investigation into sabotage after two underwater cables were damaged in the Baltic Sea should be seen in the light of the current global situation, Liwång believes.

- Before the explosions on the Nord Stream gas pipelines in 2022, nothing was noticed, he tells the newspaper.

The Minister for Civil Defense Carl-Oskar Bohlin (M) tells TT that, considering the security situation, the cable breaks are not something the government takes lightly.
