Tiktok boss seeks advice on Donald Trump from Musk

Tiktok CEO Shou Chew has approached his rival, X owner Elon Musk, for advice ahead of Donald Trump's return to the presidency. This is stated by sources for the Wall Street Journal.

Chew, who has known Musk for several years, is said to have initiated talks in recent weeks. Among other things, he has heard about what tech policy the next administration can conceivably pursue, according to the sources.

Tiktok and its Chinese owner Bytedance reportedly see Musk as a possible middleman in a situation where the popular app is at risk of being banned in the United States.

During the election, Musk has become one of Trump's closest confidants, which has led many business leaders to seek his advice.

Trump appoints Marty Makary as new chief pharmaceutical officer

Donald Trump has nominated Marty Makary for the role of head of the FDA, the US Food and Drug Administration. Makary is, among other things, a surgeon and author who has previously said that the American healthcare system is "broken".

During the pandemic, he made headlines by opposing several of the pandemic measures introduced in the United States. Among other things, he questioned the need for mouth guards and expressed concern about top-up doses for children.

The news agency AP writes that Makary, just like his new boss Robert F Kennedy Jr, criticized the pharmaceutical industry in the USA. In a statement, Trump says Makary will restore the FDA to the "gold standard."

Trump names former NFL player as housing secretary

Donald Trump wants to see former NFL player Scott Turner as housing secretary, reports CBS News.

Musk and Ramaswamy: The US is run by millions of bureaucrats

The United States is no longer governed by the people elected, but by "millions of unelected and unseen officials". That's what Elon Musk and Vivek Ramaswamy write in a debate article in the Wall Street Journal. Both men have been appointed to lead efforts to cut government spending under Donald Trump.

“The entrenched and ever-growing bureaucracy is an existential threat to our republic, and politicians have supported it for far too long. Therefore, we will do things differently," they write.

Ramaswamy and Musk write that they will primarily rely on presidential decrees — and not new laws — to get rid of "thousands" of regulations that they say have been imposed by bureaucrats rather than politicians. At the same time, they also plan to sharply cut spending on, among other things, international organizations and progressive groups.

Professor on Trump's tariff threats: "Will fight back"

The relationship between China and the US risks breaking down completely if Trump makes his threats of increased tariffs a reality. This is what the Chinese professor Da Wei tells Ekot and emphasizes that "Beijing will fight back".

- Action will have to be taken both to deter the other side from taking further action and to satisfy domestic demands.
