French Prime Minister Survives No-Confidence Motion

French Prime Minister Francois Bayrou survived Wednesday's no-confidence vote in the National Assembly, news agencies report. The left-wing alliance New Popular Front's motion received 128 of the 289 votes required when the far-right National Rally party chose not to support the proposal, Reuters reports.

The no-confidence vote was raised after Bayrou forced his 2025 budget through without a vote in parliament, where it lacked support.

The budget still needs the support of the upper house, AFP reports.

Finance Minister: It's good for the country

French Finance Minister Éric Lombard welcomes the news that the no-confidence vote against Prime Minister Bayrou Francois failed, Reuters reports.

- It's good for the country and for our citizens, he says, according to the news agency.
