Negotiations
Sources: US and Russia have talked peace in Switzerland
US and Russian delegations have met in Switzerland for talks on the war in Ukraine in recent months, sources told Reuters. The meetings were reportedly informal and the parties met as recently as last week.
The people who took part in the meetings had diplomatic experience, but it is still unclear whether the parties met at the request of the country's governments. According to the sources, the talks were a "side channel" in which the parties did not produce any concrete proposals.
One source states that the talks in Switzerland have lost their relevance due to the fact that the US and Russia have now officially started peace negotiations.

US and Ukraine are still negotiating minerals
Negotiations are still underway on the mineral agreement between Ukraine and the US, reports AFP, which spoke to a source with good insight. The US's previous attempt to get rare earth metals in exchange for support for Ukraine made big headlines.
After Ukraine rejected the American proposal, Zelenskyy found himself in the crosshairs of Donald Trump's criticism. The US president accused Zelenskyy of causing the Russian invasion. Zelenskyy, in turn, said that Trump had been misled by the Kremlin.
Despite the harsh exchanges of words, talks between the parties are ongoing. A source says that a new Ukrainian proposal was submitted on Thursday.
- We have a constant exchange of drafts, says the source.

The fighting
Ukraine: Russia plans to declare victory on the anniversary
Russia is planning a major disinformation campaign on February 24, the third anniversary of the invasion of Ukraine, with one of the main messages being that Russia has won the war. This is stated by the Ukrainian intelligence service (HUR) on Telegram, according to Ukrainian media.
In addition to declaring victory in the war, the propaganda will claim that NATO has also been defeated. Other talking points are that “Ukraine has been betrayed” by its allies in the West and that Volodymyr Zelensky’s legitimacy as president will continue to be questioned.
The Kremlin also wants to push another message, according to HUR: European governments are opposing peace negotiations and are therefore “enemies of peace.”
The overall goals are to destabilize the situation in Ukraine, discredit the country among allies and lower morale among Ukrainians.
“Stand together! We will continue the fight!” HUR writes in the post.

The world's response
Ex-diplomat: Trump wants to let Russia in the heat
It is a conscious strategy by Donald Trump to let Russia in the heat to facilitate peace negotiations. This is what Britain's former national security adviser Peter Ricketts says in an interview with Sky News.
– In the process, he has decided that it is Zelensky who must be pressured, he says.
Trump's actions are said to be due to the fact that during the US presidential election campaign he promised to bring a quick end to the war in Ukraine, Ricketts believes. The fact that Ukraine did not agree to give the US rare earth metals in exchange for American support is also said to have angered Trump, he says.
Great Britain: The Russians are not keen on peace
There is no Russian interest in peace in Ukraine, according to British Foreign Secretary David Lammy. Yesterday, the minister participated in a G20 summit in South Africa, where Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov also spoke.
– When I listen to what the Russians and Lavrov are saying, I do not see any desire to really bring about peace, he says, according to Reuters.
Sky News reported that Lavrov and the Russian delegation boycotted Lammy's speech. According to a statement on the Foreign Office website, Lammy accused Russia of "fabrications".
