Mental illness believed to be behind Hamburg stabbing attack

There are clear signs that the woman who attacked a large number of people in Hamburg with a knife on Friday night suffers from mental illness, police say, according to Der Spiegel.

There are no signs that the attack was politically motivated, and the woman will likely be placed in a psychiatric hospital. There are also no signs that she had been drinking alcohol or under the influence of drugs at the time.

The condition of all 17 people who were injured at the city's central station is stable, writes Hamburger Abendblatt.

Trump is accused of "rubbing salt in the wounds" on Floyd

Tomorrow, Sunday, will be five years since George Floyd took his last breath and caused people around the world to chant "I can't breathe". Since then, many feel that the fight against racism has lost momentum, which several media outlets are portraying on the occasion of the anniversary.

Al Sharpton, one of the most high-profile human rights activists in the US, tells Sky News that Donald Trump and the US Department of Justice are deliberately timing the scrapped plans for oversight of the Minneapolis police with the anniversary.

– It's like rubbing salt in the wounds of those who were killed – and of those who fought.

However, George Floyd's relatives are still hopeful. His brother Terrence tells ABC News that he remembers the massive support after the death with warmth and Floyd's aunt Angela Harrelson has been visited by the Swedish newspaper DN.

– Honestly, none of this is new to us. We are used to setbacks. We will come back again. All of this will make us stronger, she tells the newspaper.

Reports: Politicians were to be "greased" in the VIP box

Belgium has bugged a VIP box at the Anderlecht football club's arena in Brussels that was used by the Chinese phone manufacturer Huawei, sources tell Politico.

The authorities are also said to have bugged a car used by one of the company's lobbyists. The measures were part of a corruption investigation into suspected bribery targeting several EU parliamentarians.

Huawei is said to have bought access to the box during the 2024/2025 season for the equivalent of over half a million kronor.

According to the suspicions, it was a way to approach EU politicians with the aim of influencing them. In notes of the conversation, there is talk of "lubricating" politicians.

Donor fathered 67 children - carried a carcinogenic mutation

Sperm from a man with a rare cancer-causing mutation has been used to impregnate at least 67 children around Europe, reports The Guardian. So far, ten of the children have also been diagnosed with cancer.

The whole thing was discovered when two families independently contacted their fertility clinics after their children developed cancer, which appeared to be genetically linked. The sperm bank that supplied the sperm was then able to confirm that an unusual gene mutation was present in parts of the donor's sperm.

The case is one in a series that highlights the lack of control and international restrictions on the use of donor sperm, the newspaper writes.
