Sources: China may appease Trump with fentanyl offer
China is considering taking steps to alleviate the Trump administration’s concerns about its role in fentanyl ending up in the US, sources tell the Wall Street Journal. It would be a way to get trade negotiations started.
Xi Jinping's security minister Wang Xiaohong has reportedly been consulting with the US side in recent days about what they want China to do. Beijing is also considering sending Wang to meet with high-ranking Trump aides, either in the US or in a third country, the newspaper has learned.
Chinese companies produce ingredients used to make fentanyl in large quantities that are sold online and end up with criminal groups in Mexico, among other places, writes WSJ.
