Kristi Noem, Secretary of Homeland Security, will travel to Texas, which was hit by severe flooding over the weekend. Donald Trump wrote in a statement on Truth Social. The president said the administration is in contact with local and state authorities.
“Melania and I are praying for all the families affected by this terrible tragedy,” Trump wrote.
The president promised yesterday that Texas and local authorities will receive all the help they need to deal with the storm. At least 27 people have died and rescue workers are still searching for people who were reported missing.
Texas resident Darryl: “I saw the roof of a house float by”
NBC News spoke to Darryl Huffman, who lives in Kerrville, Texas, right next to the Guadalupe River that has overflowed after the heavy rain in the state.
“I was talking to my neighbor in his yard and we saw the roof of a house float by. It was total devastation,” he says.
Darryl says the flooding that has hit the state is on a completely different level than what he is used to.
“I have never experienced anything like this in my entire time here, and yet we have experienced a lot of flooding.

Family woke up to thunder – 20 minutes later their house was flooded
Erin Burgess and her family in Ingram, South Texas, woke up in the middle of the night to heavy thunder and rain. 20 minutes later, water from the river began to rush into their house.
“My son and I floated to a tree that we held on to while my boyfriend and our dog floated away. They were missing for a while, but we found them,” she told the local NBC channel.
Erin and her son held on to the tree for just over an hour, before the water subsided enough for them to get to their neighbor’s.
At least 27 people, including nine children, have died in the severe storm that swept across the state over the weekend. Many are still missing, including about 20 children who were at a summer camp.
