Trump's USA

Climate Policy
The US increases its military emissions – more than 138 countries

The Trump administration's defense investments in the budget package "One big beautiful bill" will increase US military emissions by 17 percent. This is shown by a new study from the American think tank Climate and Community Institute (CCI).

The increase of 25 megatons of greenhouse gases corresponds to the annual emissions of all of Croatia, says Patrick Bigger, one of the authors behind the study, to The Guardian:

- With the addition from "One big beautiful bill", the US war machine, which costs several trillion dollars, will be responsible for more emissions than 138 individual countries.

In total, emissions from the Pentagon's operations are expected to increase to 178 megatons, which is the same as the 135 million inhabitants of Ethiopia emit each year.

American aid
500 tons of emergency food from USAID to be burned – gone bad

496 tons of emergency food from the American development agency USAID will be burned, Reuters reports.

The food was meant to be sent to Afghanistan and Pakistan, where it would have been enough for around 27,000 people for a month. It was worth $793,000. But when Donald Trump froze the money for USAID, the operation stopped and the food stored in their warehouse in Dubai had time to go bad. Now it will either be thrown away or burned, which will cost another $100,000. This is shown by documents and sources that Reuters spoke to.

At the same time, a top American diplomat managed to save as much as 622 tons of emergency food with a later expiration date. This was done through an email to the head of aid at the US State Department, which stated that a million “tax dollars” had been wasted if an agreement had not been reached where the food was distributed.

The cuts
Green light for Elon Musk's Doge savings

The US Senate has voted through a proposal for extensive cuts in US aid and funding for public service companies NPR and PBS, reports Bloomberg.

The proposal includes savings of just over nine billion dollars and is now sent to the House of Representatives, where it is expected to be approved according to the New York Times.

The savings, which according to AFP were part of the goals of Elon Musk's savings department, abbreviated "Doge", are considered a major win for the White House. This is because it shows that the ambition to cut public spending lives on after the tech billionaire's dramatic exit from government.

Health Policy
Trump's Coca-Cola move could cost the US thousands of jobs

Donald Trump could cost the US thousands of jobs by changing Coca-Cola's recipe and replacing corn syrup with cane sugar, warns an American trade association for corn refiners in a press release:

"Replacing corn syrup with cane sugar would cost thousands of American jobs in the food industry, lower farmers' incomes and increase imports of foreign sugar, without providing any nutritional benefits"

The share price of the largest US corn refiner fell by almost six percent on Thursday, at a cost of more than $1.5 billion, Axios reports.
