Viral "kiss cam" video

The clip took the internet by storm: "Reminds us that cameras are everywhere"

During a Coldplay concert in Boston on Thursday, the CEO of the tech company Astronomers, Andy Byron, and the head of HR, Kristin Cabot, appeared on the arena's "kiss cam" screen. He ducked away and she hid her face, after which singer Chris Martin jokingly commented that they were probably having an affair or were just very shy.

The video clip has taken the internet by storm. After it was posted on TikTok, it took only a few seconds for it to completely dominate the feeds of millions of people. By Friday night, it had received 77 million views, writes the New York Times. The incident has led to a debate about privacy.

- We live in a very intrusive world when it comes to cameras and digital traces. It can take ten or twenty years to build a reputation, and you can lose it in an instant, says Charles Lindsey, a marketing researcher.

The number of news articles written is on par with the coverage of the trial of rapper Sean Combs, the fight between Musk and Trump, and the reporting on the death of Pope Francis, according to Axios.

Tech company suspends CEO after Coldplay booing

Tech company Astronomer has suspended CEO Andy Byron, several media outlets report. The background is that Byron, who is married, was filmed by a so-called "kiss cam" together with the company's HR manager Kristin Cabot during a concert by Coldplay in Boston.

The clip in which they both hide from the camera has been widely shared.

"Our leaders are expected to be role models in both conduct and responsibility," says Astronomer's statement.

Axios writes that many analysts believe that the company waited too long to issue a statement, more than 24 hours after the clip went viral. The delay created space for fake accounts, false statements and memes, according to the site.

Cabot has also been suspended from his position.
