Hungarian opposition asks Kremlin not to

Hungarian opposition leader Peter Magyar is asking Russia not to influence Hungarian politics ahead of the country's elections next spring, Reuters reports.

Magyar's call comes after Russia's foreign intelligence service (SVR) this week called him loyal to the "global elite" and suggested that he was part of an EU-orchestrated plan for "regime change" in Budapest.

"I demand clear assurances that the Russian Federation will refrain from any actions that could be considered interference in Hungary's domestic politics - including disinformation campaigns, cyber operations or harassment of politicians and citizens," Magyar writes.

His Tisza party is ahead of the pro-Russian Prime Minister Viktor Orbán's Fidesz party, according to several opinion polls.
