Middle East Crisis USA vs Iran

Intelligence chief fired after controversial Iran report

US Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth has fired the head of the federal Defense Intelligence Agency (DIA), Jeffrey Kruse, reports the Washington Post. The announcement comes after the DIA released a report in June stating that the US attacks on nuclear facilities in Iran had only slowed the country's nuclear program by a few months.

The report thus contradicted the White House's claims that Iran's nuclear facilities had been "destroyed".

No official explanation has been given other than that Hegseth "lost confidence" in Kruse. The dismissal is one in a series that affects high-ranking defense and intelligence officials in the US.

Over a thousand arrested in major operation against cybercrime

Over 1,200 people have been arrested in the extensive operation "Serengeti 2.0" that cracked down on online fraud in Africa, reports AFP.

The UK and 18 African countries took part in the Interpol-led operation, which identified around 88,000 victims. More than $100 million has been seized.

Cybercrime has become a major problem on the continent, with some countries seeing a rise in crime of as much as 3,000 percent.
