Wrongly deported Garcia released from custody
The high-profile case of the wrongly deported man Kilmar Ábrego García continues. He has now been released from custody in Tennessee, reports CNN.
Ábrego García was arrested in connection with the extensive deportation of suspected gang criminals to the notorious prison in El Salvador, which received enormous attention. After major demonstrations, he was returned to the United States in June and has since been detained on suspicion of human smuggling.
The indictment is based on an incident from 2022 when he was caught speeding and was suspected of moving migrants to other parts of the country.
During his time in custody, Ábrego García, with the help of his legal representatives, managed to persuade two federal judges to release him pending trial.
– Today is a special day, after 160 days I will see my family again. I am so grateful to everyone who has supported me since day one, Ábrego García said as he left the detention center.
White House furious: "He will be brought to justice"
The White House is furious at the release of wrongly deported man Kilmar Ábrego García from a Tennessee detention center. In a post on X, deputy press secretary Abigail Jackson accuses him of being a criminal, a wife-beater and a member of the Salvadoran gang M-13.
"He will be brought to justice. It is an insult to his victims that this left-wing judge intervened and released him," Jackson continues.
Kilmar Ábrego García was arrested in March and deported to El Salvador in connection with the Trump administration's extensive operation against what were believed to be Salvadoran gang criminals who were in the United States. He has been detained since then, but was allowed to return to the United States in early June.
