Trump on the submarine move: We have to be careful
The US's move of nuclear submarines is being done as a security measure, President Donald Trump said when he was asked questions by reporters late Friday evening.
– We just have to be careful. A threat was made and we didn’t think it was appropriate, so I have to be very careful.
Trump was referring to “stupid and inflammatory statements” by former Russian President Dmitry Medvedev.
This is the first time Trump has spoken or hinted at US nuclear capabilities in connection with Russia and Ukraine. The New York Times points out that the normally outspoken Trump does not often “flex his nuclear muscles”. The last time this happened was in 2018 when he spoke about North Korea.
Since the movements of the nuclear submarines are top secret information, the public will never know whether they are actually being moved or if it is just a symbolic gesture, the newspaper writes.
Sources: India continues to buy Russian oil despite threats
India
has no plans to stop buying oil from Russia despite Donald Trump's
threat of higher tariffs. This is stated by two high-ranking Indian
officials for the New York Times.
On Thursday, reports emerged
that state-owned Indian refineries had stopped buying Russian oil after
Trump's threat of "100 percent" punitive tariffs on countries that do
so.
- I have heard that India will no longer buy Russian oil, Trump said on Friday evening. Information that is now being denied.
According
to Times sources, the Indian government has not made any demands on the
refineries to scale back oil purchases from Russia.
