US halts nearly completed wind farm
The US government has decided to halt work on a large wind farm off Rhode Island, AFP reports. This despite the fact that the facility is already 80 percent complete and that 45 of the 64 turbines are already in place.
It is the latest in a series of decisions from the Trump administration that are putting a damper on expanded American wind power. Donald Trump himself said on Thursday that "wind doesn't work".
The wind farm is being constructed by Danish Örsted and could supply around 360,000 homes with electricity. Örsted says in a statement that it is looking at all options to resolve the issue, including possible legal action.
The Congressional Map Debate
Texas politicians give final approval to new electoral map
The Texas state Senate has given its final approval to the new map of electoral districts, which Donald Trump has been a strong advocate for, reports the AP. Now all that remains is for Republican Governor Greg Abbott to implement the proposal, which he is expected to do immediately.
The new boundaries are expected to give Republicans an additional five seats, which could be decisive for the 2026 midterm elections. The outcome determines the distribution of seats in Congress, which affects the conditions for Trump to implement his policies.
The move has sparked anger among Democrats, who have begun the process of redrawing the map of electoral districts in California and are threatening to appeal the decision in court.
