Trump's USA US Budget Crisis

No jobs report released: "Unusual time – flying blind"

The monthly jobs report will not be published as planned at 2:30 p.m., due to the US shutdown. Data collection will not resume until the shutdown is lifted, the Bureau of Labor Statistics confirmed on Friday.

The delay in the report means investors are missing out on an important signal about the health of the US economy.

"It's an extremely unusual time. The labor market is weakening, but all other indicators remain strong, and now we're flying blind," Torsten Sløk, chief economist at Apollo Global Management, told the Financial Times.

The solution is to rely on other data, such as the Fed's regional economic report Beige Book and the private employment report ADP.

The shutdown is estimated to cost 7 billion – a week

So far, parts of the US government have been shut down for two days. And in parallel with that, costs are also ticking up, writes The Guardian.

According to an estimate from EY Parthenon, US GDP growth could be reduced by $7 billion every week that the shutdown continues.

But there are those who predict that the effects are even greater. According to a memo from the White House Economic Advisory Service that Politico has seen, a shutdown could cost the US economy up to $15 billion in lost GDP every week.

Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent has also noted that the lockdown is a major threat to the US economy. While he blames the situation on the Democrats, he calls for continued negotiations.

– It will likely hit GDP, hit growth and working Americans.

Senate leader: There is unlikely to be a vote this weekend

It is “unlikely” that there will be a new vote on the budget in the US Senate this weekend. Republican Majority Leader John Thune said this in a statement late yesterday, writes Politico.

According to Thune, Democrats will get a fourth chance to vote today, but if that doesn't work, the weekend will be taken to "think about it."

- Then we'll come back and have another vote on Monday.

For the Democrats, minority leader Chuck Schumer believes that the parties must work together to reach a solution. He predicts that Republican unity will "start to crack" the longer the shutdown continues.
