Analysis: How can hatred ever be reversed?

Israel has made a series of fatal mistakes in the year of war since the Hamas terror attack, writes Ari Shavit for Foreign Affairs.

Netanyahu's government would have clearly painted the war as a struggle for the freedom of the Palestinian people from the tyranny of Hamas, secured US and NATO support and signed peace agreements with Saudi Arabia - but they chose a different path, he continues.

“They launched a war in Gaza without international legitimacy, diplomatic basis or overall strategy. They resorted to large-scale military force without clear, achievable political goals and without any theory of victory.”

In an analysis for TV4 Nyheterna, Terese Cristiansson asks if the past year has any winners.

Both Hamas and Israel have succeeded in some of their short-term strategic goals - but at the cost of hatred now growing like weeds in Israel and Palestine, she writes.

"How will future generations on both Israeli and Palestinian soil be able to turn hatred into something that even resembles understanding?"

Israel's defense minister warns: Iran could end up like Gaza

If Iran tries to hurt Israel, it could end up like Gaza or Beirut. This is what Israel's Defense Minister Yoav Gallant says, writes AFP.

On Tuesday, Iran attacked Israel with around 200 robots, in response to the death of Hezbollah leader Hassan Nasrallah last Friday. According to Gallant, the Iranians failed to disrupt Israel's air defenses: "no planes were damaged, no squadrons were put out of action," he says.

- Anyone who thinks we are being discouraged should look at our achievements in Gaza and Beirut, says Gallant.
