Attack on Western Leaders: “On the Wrong Side of History”
Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu launches a fierce attack on the leaders of France, Canada and the UK, writes the BBC.
– To President Macron, Prime Minister Carney and Prime Minister Starmer, I say, when mass murderers, rapists, child murderers and kidnappers thank you, you are on the wrong side of justice. You are on the wrong side of humanity and on the wrong side of history.
The statement was made in response to the shooting of two Israeli embassy employees in the US earlier this week. All three leaders have condemned the act, but have also criticized Israel's actions in Gaza in recent days and called the humanitarian situation unacceptable. According to Netanyahu, Hamas has welcomed the criticism of Western leaders.
More trucks let in – unclear if they reached those affected
Emergency aid is slowly starting to be let in to Gaza, several media outlets report. Israel says that 107 humanitarian trucks were let in on Thursday after “thorough security checks” at the Kerem Shalom border crossing.
On board were food, flour, medicine and medical equipment, writes Haaretz. How much reached those in need is unclear.
At the same time, Israel bombed the last partially functioning hospital in northern Gaza, Al Awda, yesterday, reports The Independent, citing Palestinian authorities.
UN: Israel gives a teaspoon when a river is needed
UN Secretary-General António Guterres is critical of Israel letting in too little humanitarian aid to Gaza.
– All the aid that has been let in so far is equivalent to a teaspoon but the need is equivalent to a river, he says, according to several media outlets.
He calls Israel's restrictions "astonishing" and says the quotas and bans that Israel has imposed are unnecessary.
- At the same time, the Israeli military is intensifying its offensive, which is leading to horrific levels of death and destruction.
Sky News writes that there are 9,000 trucks of supplies waiting outside Gaza but that Israel has only allowed 100 trucks of baby food and medical equipment to enter daily since Wednesday. Before that, no emergency aid was allowed in.
