Russia uses Brazil as a spy factory – several agents exposed
For
many years, the Kremlin has used Brazil as a "springboard" for its top
intelligence agents. At least nine Russian agents working under
Brazilian cover have been exposed in connection with a major operation
by Brazil's counterintelligence, a review by the New York Times shows.
Russian
agents have been able to travel to other parts of the world to engage
in intelligence activities using a Brazilian passport. Among the spies
exposed are a researcher who got a job in Norway and a man who was
accepted to a university in the United States, the newspaper writes.
The
fact that Brazil has become a useful country for Putin and the Russian
intelligence service is partly due to the fact that it is easier to
obtain an identity card there compared to many other countries. The
revelations have been made with the help of intelligence from the United
States, Israel and the Netherlands, among others.
Great Britain warns of new Russian cyber attacks
Great
Britain and its allies are now warning of a Russian campaign aimed at
carrying out cyber attacks against organizations, logistics companies
and technology companies that help send support from the West to
Ukraine. The Russian military intelligence service is behind the
campaign, according to Britain's National Cyber Security Center NCSC.
Cyberattacks have already targeted the defense industry, the IT sector and airports.
– The campaign poses a serious risk to the organizations affected, said operations chief Paul Chichester in a statement.
